  • Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Ilulissat. Guided town walk and meet the huskies

Flight late morning from Reykjavik Domestic Airport to Ilulissat. Arrival to Ilulissat in the early noon. After check in at Hotel/Guesthouse, you will enjoy a guided town walk in Ilulissat. You will have a little time in between the two tours – town walk and meet the huskies. When going on the meet the huskies tour, you will go visit a local hunter and his dogs. You will be able to get an insight into the life as a hunter in modern society and you will be able to ask any questions you might have.
The owner of the dogs will show you which of the huskies are safe to pet.

    Day 2: Northern light tour

Before going on your northern light tour, we recommend you take a walk to the Sermermiut by the icefjord, which is a classified UNESCO World Heritage site. Hiking in the Icefjord area you can chose between 3 paths. The boardwalk makes it possible for most people to join on this wonderful hike in the amazing area where icebergs meet mountains and old Inuit ruins. If you want a longer and harder hike, that is also an option. You will be given a map of the area and the trails are well marked both on the map and on the hike. In the summer the downtown area is buzzing with life and it’s possible for you to go enjoy a locally brewed beer or a fresh made coffee on the outside porch of the different café’s after a wonderful hike.

After dinner, you will go explore the beautiful phenomenon Aurora Borealis – the northern light. If there is more than 20% chance of spotting northern light, the local operator will pick you up from your hotel/guesthouse and take you out on an unforgettable northern light trip.

    Day 3: Sailing among icebergs

The Ilulissat Icefjord calves about 43 million-ton ice in one day. The result is gigantic icebergs, which can be more than 100 meters on each side and with a height on more than 100 meters above the water surface. Today you will go sailing 2 hours among these amazing icebergs, experience first-hand these tower-like icebergs. Prepare your camera!

Day 4: Visit to the museum. Return flight to Reykjavik.

We recommend that you on this day see some of the highlights of Ilulissat town, Ilulissat’s old church facing the Icefjord and the Knud Rasmussen museum. Knud Rasmussen was a Greenlandic/Danish polar explorer and anthropologist. On Knud Rasmussen’s 100th birthday, his birth home was turned into a museum. Even though the museum is fairly small it contains an amazing amount of info about Knud Rasmussen and general history of Greenland. After this, you can do a little souvenir shopping in the nearby souvenir shops. Flight back around noon to Iceland.

NB. As Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon, we are not able to guarantee the sighting of northern light. However, the local operator will do their best to reschedule in case of bad weather forecast or low chances of northern light sighting.

If you want to increase your chances of spotting a whale while being in Greenland this would be the ideal trip for you. While looking for the whales, you can enjoy the beautiful sight of the breathtaking icebergs. When we spot a whale we cut the engine so we can enjoy the sight of the whale in silence. That way it’s also easier to spot the whale again when it comes up for air. The whales you might spot are: Humpback, fin and mink whales. Just be aweare that whales are wild animals, therefore sightings cannot be guaranteed.
