  • Tour Itinerary

    Day 1
Late morning flight from Reykjavík to Ilulissat. Arriving to Ilulissat early noon. Transport to Hotel. We recommend you go hiking to Sermermiut Inuit settlement. This area is a classified UNESCO World Heritage site and the view is unlike many other places. In the distance you see the icebergs float by and if you are really lucky, you might spot an iceberg turning.
In the summer the downtown area is buzzing with life and it’s possible for you to go enjoy a locally brewed beer, a fresh made coffee or a delicious bagel on the outside porch of the different cafés in downtown after a wonderful hike. Night in Hostel or Hotel.

    Day 2
Early departure by boat to Eqi and the Eqip Sermia glacier.  Beautiful landscape and scenery. Arrival at Eqi in the early afternoon. Possibility to hike to the Inland ice by the track Paul Emely Victor used to launch his expeditions. The hike can be a little demanding, but when you reach the top of the mountain and see the amazing view over the Eqi glacier it’s well worth it. And if you are lucky you might meet an Arctic fox or an Arctic hare eating its lunch. Otherwise it’s a good time to study the arctic flora, looking for the different types of flowers growing in there wild. 4 to 5 hrs walk. Night in a cozy hut.

    Day 3
Hike to the lagoon and the Eqip Sermia glacier. The hike with the beautiful view of the fjord on the left side and the tall mountain on your right. Enjoy the sweet smell of Arctic thyme - that’s easy to spot due to its pink little flowers or Arctic black crowberry that is Greenlanders number one favorite berry. Above the lake a series of waterfalls decorates the landscape. When arriving to the glacier front you can sit and enjoy the thunder-noise from the glacier. Boat back to Ilulissat in the afternoon. Arrival to Ilulissat at 19.00. Night in hostel or hotel.

    Day 4
4 hours whale watching trip between the floating icebergs in the Disco Bay. Sailing at the edge of Ilulissat icefjord you enter the famous UNESCO World Haritage site. The water in this area is very nutritious due to the big icebergs and the strong underwater current created from the glacier front 40 km up the fjord. This means there might be a whale or two to spot. While waiting for the whales to appear you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the unbelievably big icebergs and if you look closely you might just spot a seal! Night in hostel or Hotel.

    Day 5
If you didn’t hike the Sermermiut trail on your first day, you will have time to do it today or we recommend you try hiking a different route. Get lunch at one of the hotels or downtown cafés. We also recommend you check out the art gallery close to downtown or take a walk and explore the town. There’s more roads than you might just think. Night in hostel or hotel.

    Day 6
Visit of the Ilulissat town, its old church and the Knud Rasmussen museum. Knud Rasmussen was a Greenlandic/Danish polar explorer and anthropologist. On Knud Rasmussen’s 100th birthday his birth home was turned into a museum. Even though the museum is fairly small it contains an amazing amount of info about Knud Rasmussen and general history of Greenland. After this you can do a little souvenir shopping in the nearby souvenir shops. Flight back around noon to Iceland.
