  • Tour Itinerary

Day 1 -  Arrival in Greenland

The flights to Narsarsuaq depart late morning from Reykjavík. You fly over the tip of the Greenland Icecap and land at the airport, originally built by the US Army in 1942.  Narsarsuaq is located 100 km inside a fjord, just 6 km from the Greenland Ice Sheet. Here your tour officially begins and you are picked up on a boat and then cruise between the icebergs towards Narsaq - your home for the tour. At arrival to Narsaq, welcome meeting in the hotel restaurant.
    Sailing: 1 hour

    Day 2 - Qaleralik icefjord

After a good breakfast we put on our warm jackets and set out on a jaw-dropping boat ride. We begin our day in Qaleralik icefjord where the ice is luminescent blue. We park the boat in front of the glacier tongue and take in the power of nature. From there we sail to the next fjord and step on land on Akulliit Nunaat peninsula - “the land in the middle” where we can walk all the way to the ice and touch the glacier crawling down from the Greenland Icecap. As we find our way back we explore a beautiful waterfall in Kangerlua fjord and look for wildlife such as eagles and whales, or the more tame ones, reindeer and sheep.
Duration: 8 hours, sailing: 5 hours.

Day 3 - Brattahlið and Garðar

Again we head out on a boat after breakfast. Our first stop is Brattahlíð as the Vikings named it, or Qassiarsuk as the Greenlanders now call it. Qassiarsuk is a small farmers settlement that honors the viking history and has made a replica of Erik the Red’s long house and Tjodhilde’s church, originally built more than 1000 years ago. Once we have explored the houses we head over to Igaliku or Garðar, as it was called in the viking era. We take the scenic route and ask the boat to drop us off on the other side of the hill and walk over to Igaliku. This little settlement is tucked in the bottom of a long fjord, with rugged landscapes on all sides and icebergs floating around in the calm waters. Here we find more ruins in a wonderful little artist community, that has a little Riviera feeling to it. We sail back to Narsaq  in the late afternoon.
Duration: 8 hours, sailing: 2-3 hours

Day 4 - Return to Iceland

Take in the last Arctic breaths, as it is time to leave. You will get a ride to the airport in Narsarsuaq, where we get on our flight back to Reykjavík.
    Sailing: 1 hour

    Optional extra day
day 4 on the 5 day version

There is no guided tour today so you can sleep a little longer and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Greenlandic town’s life. Our suggestion for the day would be to walk up to hike up to Kvanefjeld mountain (Kuannersuit). The hike is wonderful and you get a feeling that you are alone in the world. However, the mountain is famous for something different, as there was an uranium mine for a while and there is serious debate still on weather or not the mine should be reopened.

NOTE  This tour is semi-guided, meaning there will be a host waiting for you in Narsarsuaq, who will pick you up at the airport and take you to Narsaq by boat, brief you on the program of the tour and make sure that you know where to be for the different excursions and guided walks.

The itinerary can be subject to shift in order of the excursions. The content of the tour will remain the same.
